Make the Most of The Holidays
The holidays are meant to spend time and create memories with friends and family members. However, it can be difficult knowing a loved one may not remember certain things due to a memory loss disease such as Alzheimer's or another form of dementia. It can also be overwhelming for full-time caregivers to continue with yearly traditions on top of caring for their loved one.
Nevertheless, there are still ways to involve your loved one living with dementia such as:
Asking them for help with wrapping presents or setting the dinner table
Decorating cookies or making simple decorations
Playing and singing along to their favorite holiday music
Watching seasonal movies together
Sticking to annual traditions and avoiding adding new ones can be less stressful for both the caregiver and the individual living with memory loss. It is also helpful to keep gatherings small, keep outings brief, and avoid disruptions to their daily routine.
No matter the situation, it’s important to stay in the holiday spirit and make the most out of each day.
