Protect Your Memory - Here’s How

As time passes by and you and your loved ones get older, it is very common to experience memory loss in one way or another. However, there are daily practices that can be incorporated into a lifestyle that can protect your memory.

  • Eating Healthy. Eat right by choosing appropriate portion sizes of all food groups - protein, grains, fruits, vegetables, and dairy. You don't have to completely cut out things such as red meat and sugary foods, but be sure to be cautious of that intake.

  • Daily Exercise. This could be as simple as a 30-minute walk. It is recommended to exercise for at least 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week. Keep your body active.

  • Sleep. Research shows that a healthy amount of sleep is between 7 and 9 hours. The brain uses this time to rest and recharge.

  • Social Engagement. Staying socially engaged and having positive interactions with others stimulates the brain. Get involved in organizations, join a club, talk to others, or even keep a pet to keep you company.

  • Challenge Your Brain. There are so many different activities out there that can keep your brain active and healthy such as playing an instrument, solving puzzles, or learning a new skill.

While all of these practices seem so simple, it is very easy to get caught up in the ways of the world and not properly take care of your body and your brain. Develop these habits over time and you’ll thank yourself later
